Ceramics in Heliópolis

Volunteer project conducted in São Paulo with children aged 5 to 12 in a favela(shantitown): low income informal neighborhoods in Brazil that has experienced historical governmental neglect, with substandard housing conditions, lack of proper sanitation, electricity and public services.

The children learned how to make a ceramic tile with the title:"What I like the most in my neighborhood". After learning how to paint and glaze, the tiles were assembled into a mural located at the local cultural center.

This project was later expanded to the adult population:a topopnymic initiative that involved creating ceramic street signs with the street name that were affixed to the  homes of residents at the street corners, to facilitate identification and navigation through the neighborhood.
