About

Renata Barcelos
Renata Barcelos

Renata Barcelos was born in 1969 in São Paulo. She lived in Europe for 16 years and has collected awards and recognition in Brazil and several European countries. Her work fits into the premise of the sculptor's definition by Constantin Brancusi:

"Create like a god, command like a king, work like a slave."

The results are organic pieces, with both strength and delicacy, bringing shape and beauty to noble stones such as Marble and Onyx. Renata Barcelos' work is based on elements of nature that simultaneously convey strength and lightness, capturing ephemeral natural phenomena like ocean waves and water droplets within the stone"s hardness.

She has exhibited in countries such as the USA, Spain, and England, at venues including  Vorpal Gallery,Newby Hall and Gardens, Chelsea Flower Show, The Sculpture Park, Doncaster College, The Biscuit Factory, Summer Gallery, Felicia Hall, and Hotel La Tartana.

Renata Barcelos taught stone carving at Doncaster College and  University of Hull in the United Kingdom. She has also been accepted as a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Was engaged in social work both in Brazil – in the Heliópolis community – and in England where, alongside the Anglican Church, worked with individuals facing social exclusion, both economical and behavioral(Heroin addicts). Through ceramic classes and the creation of panels made by the students, installed in their own communities, her work has greatly enriched individuals and communities through art.

Since 2013, Renata Barcelos has also been creating sculptures in ceramics and a line of ceramic design, including jewelry and decorative and utilitary objects.
